A tranquil opening to this month’s selections from Barcelona’s Mindloops. Listless melodies and piano work throughout, with some lush, glitchy textures overlaid.
ǝɯǝɐ - Nothing Remains Except Change (ST058)
Wicked compilation on Sequencias Temporales, a label out of Mexico City. A real range of tunes on here, with some delicate and nimble percussion and full-bodied synth work.
Field Designer - Irony
Lovely musique-concrete here from Field Designer. This work speaks for itself in its conceptual integrity and intricate sound design. Out on Polish imprint, Language Instinct.
Jens Pauly - Narrows
A lush and soothing work from Jens Pauly. Lots of acoustic sounds and comforting field recordings. The kind of ambient work that never gets old.
Evan Lindorff-Ellery - Tape Collage Piece 2011
Another work of musique-concrete here. This is an epic work, definitely worth a proper sit-down listen.
Absis - Saw
Deep and eery work from Barcelona based Absis, drawing on some deep, dubby sounds with some luscious synth offerings.
Various Artists - INDEXOXO<3
Wickedly varied and extremely consistent, this compilation from Berlin’s INDEX:Records is definitely worth a cop! Lots of forward-thinking downtempo grooves in here.
µ-Ziq - 1977
Lovely downtempo grooves on this work. Filled with really creative percussion and vocal production, this is a deep listener’s dream.
Gallery Six - Angle of Light
Japan’s Gallery Six presents a lovely work exploring stillness, and finding beauty in mundanity. Really nice field recordings here, used to create what the artist describes as ‘landscape sound paintings’.
Lightbath & Mike Effenberger - The Medicine is the Awakening
Breathtaking work here, coming out of Oregon. An emotive work with a lot of variation, but nevertheless a carefully crafted tranquility which is hard to replicate.
Ken Ikeda - Sparse Memory
Abstract sound work at its finest here, out on one of our favourite labels at the moment, Room40. This work takes you on an evolving sonic journey, with themes of memory and its failings explored throughout.
Deeb - Ricordi Oggetti
Luscious synths and swelling pads throughout this work from Iceland’s Deeb. Expansive and reflective throughout.
