Tell us a bit about yourself...

Ryo: Ryo Kurashina is both my actual and artist name! I’ve done a couple of residencies in the past on 1020 Radio and Loose FM but I’m taking a break to work on some other projects. I also curate a night called Striations at Spanners every few months where we focus on bass on the left of the spectrum.

What first got you into mixing?

Ryo: I’ve always been involved with music since a young age but I met some friends whilst studying at Uni who got me involved with it. We’re all still good friends and fairly involved with music and running events.
What is your favourite club in London?

Ryo: Probably Spanners, and maybe Ormside projects which I only went to for the first time very recently. Both great clubs with nice systems!
What’s your favourite spot to listen to tunes outside of the club?

Ryo: Outside the club I prefer listening to stuff in my flat, or when I’m out and about commuting or travelling!

What direction did you take with the mix you’ve recorded for us?

Ryo: I’m not very good at describing the genres but I went for the mood at the start of a club night when people start rolling in.

It starts off quite slow but I slip it into quite a speedy tempo around halfway through.
What’s your favourite ambient record?

Ryo: I really like Odd Ned, their Long Mile Works album is really great and I listen to that quite a lot.

Be sure to check Ryo’s mix out here...
