Tell us a bit about yourself...
Will: Hello! My name is Will, I’m 29 years old and I currently live in London with my lovely partner Beth and my equally lovely cat Meeka :)

What’s your usual process when recording a mix or making a track? Any rituals you like to follow?
Will: Nothing specific really, but I generally like to feel organised before I sit down to make tunes and focus on music, or to do anything else really. Does tidying the kitchen and doing all my chores count as a pre-music-making ritual? Lol

Any golden nuggets of wisdom for aspiring producers?
Will: Two things that I always recommend are the book by Ableton called Making Music: 74 Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers, as well as the “Objekt PDF”
Both are available for free online if you do a bit of googling which is neat. The book is really good for overcoming production roadblocks and the Objekt PDF is just great tips from a great producer - someone compiled these from a few various Reddit threads I believe - I think it’s quite well known.

Other hot tips include having a friend or two who’s down for giving you (honest) feedback and just trusting your own taste sometimes as well.
Your tracks - and track titles - while aimed at the dancefloor, often have a certain element of silliness that puts them in opposition to super ‘serious’ dance music. Is there something you’re saying here or do you just like some humour and levity in the club?
Will: That’s it really, I just quite like a bit of playfulness :)
Humour can be overlooked in music and art, which I think is a bit of a shame. There was a really good line in that recent Michael J Fox documentary where he says something about laughter being really honest, because the way you react to something that’s funny is that your body literally can’t help but blurt out a noise. I thought that was great.
Sums it up better than I could!

Away from club music, what’s one record you can always use to wind down?
Impossible to pick one as this is sort of the bulk of what I listen to really, but I’ll go for the record that’s sat next to my turntable now: Santilli - In Circles.

Talk us through the mix and your intentions…
Will: This was a fun one to put together!
In a nod to the humble bonsai that you’re named after, all of the tracks are about or named after plants. I think it’s my first themed mix. It actually made things a bit easier than usual to put together!

What/where/who has been inspiring you recently?
Will: The warm weather tbh, enjoying a few too many pints in the sun!
Anything you’ve got coming up that you’d like to shout about?
Special shout out to YOU, BONSE1 crew, for having me :)
In other news, there are a few nice releases coming on my label Third Place before the end of the year, as well as into early next, so keep an eye out for those!
